Has anyone removed the resin tank holder slide on Form 2?

Hello!

First time poster here, haven’t had any issues with our printer in several years. I inherited a Form 2 when I bought my practice, and for the 7 years I’ve been in the practice there have been no issues. Recently, we were getting the jackhammer noise when the resin tray is trying to move left and right, and now it is more or less “stuck”. I’ve worked with tech support trying to troubleshoot, nothing so far but they have been responding so that’s good.

For reference - There have been some minor resin spills over time from the silicone layer separating from the resin tank. Nothing major from what I can tell, but opening the printer base there was some resin here and there. I have replaced the limit switch for the resin tray slide, no changes - still getting the noise. I ended up taking the teeth off of the slide where it engages the gear to see if the motor would run smoothly without grabbing/engaging the tray holder - motor moves just fine without a jackhammer noise. Visually, the rail for the tray holder to slide on looks clean - I don’t see any resin build up that I can tell.

For those with a Form 2, are you able to move the tank holder slide mechanism back and forth by hand? I am able to move the wiper mechanism by hand, but the tank holder slide piece will NOT move. Not sure if this is normal where it won’t move by hand pressure like the wiper mechanism, or if this is my issue. The wiper piece slides along the same rail, so I don’t know why the resin tank holder won’t move easily.

I am wanting to remove the entire resin tank holder mechanism to inspect further, but I’m a little nervous. Support did not have any documentation or instructions on how to remove it. Has anyone run into this before? I was wanting to attach videos but they are too big in size :frowning:

Replying to my own post probably is silly, but I seem to have resolved my issue. Probably from one of the spills, there was some slight resin build up in the area of the track on the front side. I cleaned that out best I could, applied some lithium grease to the track. I kept looking at the “wheels” on the back side of the tray slide. I was feeling like these were binding, so I kept trying to “clean” them even though they looked clean. I applied some IPA in/around the wheels and could somewhat move the resin tank slide back and forth. Decided to plug it back in to see what happened, and thankfully the slide is moving back and forth now with no jackhammer noise anymore. I still have to put it all back together and run a test print - hoping I didn’t mess anything else up, but…here’s to hoping.

I did find a video on youtube from Desktop Stereolithography doing a disassembly of a form 2. Helpful video - should have watched this first. I ended up taking off the tank tray, and I did NOT measure from the build platform to the tray top. Thankfully he has another video on how to re-calibrate that, so I’ll need to do that to ensure I re-install it level and can continue printing.
