I have been putting my build plate (FORM3) into the curing unit because it makes my small build parts pop off cleanly. But I had one of the closing plates on the build plate pop out. It looks like these two closing plates are just held onto the build plat with a rubber gasket. Should I not put the build plate into the cure unit?
It also lets me not need any gloves since all the resin is full set up.
Hi @bitsyncmaster thanks for your question.
It is possible to put a build platform in the Cure but please note two important considerations below. Because of the nature of the process, it will cure all resin on the build platform:
-
If there is any residual resin on the BP, it will cure and that BP is no longer usable.
-
It will be more difficult to remove the parts.
Hope this helps!
Yes I have a holder so the BP sits on it’s side. So it fits no problem. This is after the wash and I wipe off any residue on the sides. The parts pop of clean because I print them on small standoffs built onto the model.
We had ours pop off after leaving in IPA to long we just popped it back on
Thanks. I also just popped it back on after cleaning is. I was thinking if it continues to happen, I’ll just put some resin on the edge and cure it.
The problem with these is that once they pop out, resin tends to get inside and they will continue to pop out.
This happens because there is an internal volume of air inside the build plate that’s sealed. This volume of air expands when it’s heated.
I’ve drilled a very small hole in the top of all my build plates and this has never happened to me again
Drilling a small hole is a great idea. Thanks.
There is a cast rib inside the BP so I just drilled a 1/16" hole on the front side a little offset from the center line. I decided the front side was best because in the wash that side is very close to the edge of the wash station. Don’t over fill the wash but even if a little IPA got inside it should evaporate.
I’m pretty sure @leonhart88 meant the actual top when he said “top of all my build plates” and not the side. It shouldn’t matter, but I don’t see how that was confused.
Yes, I meant the actual top…like near the handle
I’ll try to take a picture next time I’m at my machine.
Yes, I did drill on the top near the front side. Sorry for not being clear.

In case it helps others, here’s a picture of my build plates with said hole.
