I purchased a Form 2 in January 2018 that was replaced in February for Motor Jammed/Motor Move Out of Bounds stop errors and now the second printer is doing the exact same thing. The same error that started the same way. Once or twice in a day to twenty times in a given print.
I’m waiting for support to get back to me but this isn’t how I envisioned this printer paying for itself. I can’t sit in front of if for the full length of time a print takes.
Is there a way to automatically accept the override that displays when the error occurs? This would at least save me from babysitting each print.
As far as I know, you can’t auto skip the motors jammed error screen. This happened for the first time to me last week during a small simple print. Are the belts tightened?
On a 3 month old machine, I’ve been reluctant to open the case for fear that Formlabs will claim I am the cause of the issue or exacerbated it by opening the case. At a minimum, doing so before they instructed me to.
The first machine did this with the same degree of frequency within the first week and took them over a month to replace it. Granted some of this time was spent with days between email replies and I was out of town for a few days somewhere around week 4.
I am losing confidence in the reliability of this machine and may seek a refund.
Is it within the realm of possibility my file is causing this issue? although the same file printed fine when I first unboxed the first and now second printer. Could it be degrading something over time in a cumulative effect? Seems unlikely but I don’t want to rule anything out.
Here is a diary of the stops on a 30 hour print. The last time it did this with the first machine, the print was unusable but I’m hoping this one will fare better.

My machine was plagued with resin sensor errors- that went away when I retorqued the screws as advised- but then I started getting out of bounds errors.
This got worse and worse until the machine started making wookie noises and the platform became entirely uncoordinated with the peel and wiper motions. It would not lift up high enough on peel, and the wiper arm would strike the model. It pause a print for an “obstruction” without the platform being high enough to remove the tank. It would ‘sense resin’ with the platform fully immersed and the resin level displaced too high to read and it would run the laser when the platform was not even descended.
The printer was replaced… and thus far the replacement printer has not had a single error of any kind.
I think Formlabs got a whole batch of printers that were not correctly assembled. and they are finding out which ones the hard way… So If you got two of them, try and get them to replace it again with one they have TESTED. They assured me they tested the replacement they sent me, and thus far I have had not issue… but my fingers are crossed.
I’m not sure they can adequately test it. The first machine did it fairly soon after receiving it but this second one did it after a month and after running nearly a full resin bottle through. Not sure they’d be willing to do that.
