Support gaps

Can anyone suggest a cause or remedy for gaps in supports like these:

They don’t seem to affect the print but leave lots of nurdles in the resin which then has to be filtered.

  • Nurdles = in this case small discs of cured resin 1mm diameter by 0.1mm thick.

Could this be a build plate adhesion issue? What resin is this?

The resin is Tough1500

I would be surprised if it was just an adhesion problem because it happens in patches. Also if you look in the top left corner of the photo there is a corner of the model that hasn’t completed, even though the taller structure in the centre has.

Don’t use the mini-islands for the support bases. Print a full support base. Bet that fixes the issue.

It is an adhesion issue. Happening in patches is exactly what to expect. Adhesion is governed by a number of different parameters whose values can vary locally, i.e., be different in different areas of the build volume.

Looks to me like those supports with their bases lifted way off the build plate got that way because on some peel cycle, the support stuck to the resin tray and came loose from the build plate. But since the supports have interconnecting branches, at some point in the print the “loose” support was “reacquired” by being tied in to adjacent supports, so at the end of the print the rogue support is solidly connected to the rest of the support lattice.
