Strange gap

After printing directly on the build platform (but with support/mini rafts inside, the result was not very nice:

  • Big gap on the side
  • Although this build platform is designed for direct print, the sides have a molten look. Maybe that is normal. It probably is easy to remove with sand paper.

(The model isn’t cleaned here)

First I thought I made the venting holes for the cups too small, but because of the side openings I think this was not the issue. The problem originated next to the USB-C hole. That one was supported from the inside and one support on the outside.

What am I missing here? What can I do better?

The molten look you describe is part of the process they use to make the print better adhere to the build plate. There are ways to accommodate for this.

As for the strange gap, it kind of looks as though it was torn apart when it started doing the USB-C hole causing the rest of the print to get messed up. Maybe the peel forces were too strong for that particular section. If that’s the case having more supports to strengthen that area could help.
