We are experimenting with the Rigid10k resin on a Form4 printer. We are using PreForm 3.54.0.602 which gives the option to adjust the touchpoint size. Having made prints with the Grey V5 resin using the Fine Touchpoints setting, and really liking the results, we adjusted the touchpoint size with a Rigid 10k print. However, the rendering of the touchpoints as displayed in PreForm did not look any different. Measuring the print after washing and curing the touchpoints all are right around 0.6mm (the default) rather than the 0.2mm we changed the setting too. It seems as if the touchpoint size setting is simply not working.
Hi! Just to be sure, could you clarify if you regenerated the supports after adjusting the touchpoint size for the Rigid 10K print? Also, could you please try out the “Smaller Touchpoints” preset as well? It has the same reliability as the default.
Okay so I just ran the same print after first clearing the supports, selecting the “smaller touchpoints” setting, and auto-generating the supports. This time the supports did print at the smaller size. I confirmed with a caliper that they were very close to the 0.4mm specified. If we wanted to go even smaller to match the “fine touchpoints” setting in the grey v5 would we have to modify the “bottom diameter” value after first selecting “smaller touchpoints”? or should we define a custom preset? I can confirm when we did the initial experiment where we manually lowered the “bottom diameter” value but the presets was set to default, we did clear the supports, adjust the value, and then auto-generated the new supports; and that resulted in 0.6mm touchpoints despite the value being set to 0.2mm.
I can confirm also that when we select presets “smaller touchpoints” the rendering in PreForm does show smaller touchpoints. But no matter how we adjust the “bottom diameter” value the rendering always looks the same (whether in default or smaller touchpoints). It appears that value is not being respected.
Thanks for the update and for providing further context! Happy to hear the “Smaller Touchpoints” setting did work.
To achieve even smaller touchpoints, the setting you would need to adjust is not “Bottom Diameter”, but “Touchpoint Size”. The “Bottom Diameter” setting affects only internal supports (i. e. supports within the model that do not connect to the build platform) by changing the diameter of their base on the model.
Please let me know if the touchpoint size modification works with the “Touchpoint Size” setting, or feel free to ask if anything is unclear.
I’m going to try that now. Can I just add a suggestion that the “touchpoint size” setting should be part of the “touchpoints” tab. I never even saw the size setting above “minima” until you pointed it out.
Also, the description and image associated with “bottom diameter” when you mouse over it seems a bit confusing and not obvious how it is different from the touchpoint.
Just want to report that reducing the touchpoints to 0.2mm with the Rigid10k resin resulted in a failed print. The part detached from the supports. The “smaller touchpoints” setting which set them to a size of 0.3mm did print well. So we will use that going forward as our smaller size. Thanks
Thanks for the follow-up! Happy to hear you found a setting that works.
Thank you also for the feedback on the UI - I see your point and will pass this along to the team.
