Hi all, new here. After purchasing a used form 2, on my fest print I got a resin sensor error. Wasn’t even able to pull off a single print as it wouldn’t let me.
Im stuck to using open mode. Has anyone found a DEFINITIVE fix the resin sensor error?
I can’t use closed mode at all, can’t use the wiper, can’t use the heated vat nor the auto fill features. I tried everything in formlabs suggestions and even took the printer apart to clean with IPA to no avail.
Please if there is a fix can you let me know?
Im thinking the sensor board could be bad but where do I even get a replacement?
Thanks guys

Hi @thebeardy1 . We’re sorry this is happening with your Form 2. I was talking about it with our customer service team. They were curious if you had reseated the LevelSense grounding screws, which could help, but ultimately the best solution is to create a support ticket so that you can share more details about your specific printer and workflow so our team can help you asap.
HI @verdugod, thanks for getting back to me. I have been in contact with customer support for a few days, trying everything they recommended. including reseating the screws. Just to be clear, my printer is second hand and way out of warranty. There was quite a nasty resin spill on the inside and i disassembled the printer and cleaned all the parts using IPA. The printer works fine on all counts other than the resin sensor which is near impossible to replace i imagine.
I am using it in open mode and I’m currently trying to calibrate it for use of a 3rd party resin which is intended for a DLP printer called Elegoo ABS like 3.0 which I was told by the manufacturer works on the same 405nm wavelength as the Form 2.
But i would like the opportunity to use the heating and wiper function with my printer.
Other than that, thank you to yourself and the customer support agent who’s been helping me out with documentation for servicing my printer but it’s quite strange that one little sensor is disabling the two features i want.

could it be that something other than the sensor is the issue? could it be the motor that swings the arm to pinch the bottle spout? how can i test this if there is a test available?
I see. Ok you’re in good hands with our agent. We’re eager to figure out what the culprit is so you can get back to printing. Thanks for sharing more context.
so my theory is that the resin dispensing system motor isn’t swinging. so the actual sensor is doing it’s job but since there is no resin dispensing, it’s throwing that error up. Any suggestions n how to test the motor? to see if it actually functions?
Just to keep this thread updated, i opened the case and found the grounding wires on the right side of the printer where i think the motor wires were, fused together with resin due to the spill form the last owner. I cleaned the up and trued again. still get the same error. I manually moved the dispenser arm and it seems to move but i’m not sure if it does it under power. not sure if it works, it says filling but i still get the resin sensor error.
Not sure where to go from here
Since I wrote this, i had suspected that a combination of preform software and printer firmware were to blame. I have been loading and flashing new firmware from the list MattiaMercante provided. AND IT WORKED! I managed to install preform 3.0.0 which then prompted me to update my printer’s firmware. it now auto filled and stopped right on the fill line. The sensor worked as well which is good as i had ordered a FDC1004 to re solder onto the sensor board (don’t have to do that anymore) and it’s currently printing the optics test. I’m super happy however, the true test comes with the optics test print results.
Thank you

Thanks for updating on your progress and thank you for your patience! We’re thrilled you reached a solution and hope the optics test results have proven successful.
Hi Verdugod,
I cleaned all mirror surfaces and my form 2 is now working very well!
I also found that pre-filling the resin tank by hand before starting helps as it then auto fills the rest of the way.

We’re so happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing your solution, so glad mirror cleaning and pre-fill combo worked!
