I have been printing with Grey V4 on my Form 2 printer, which is being discontinued this month, so I am looking for compatible alternatives. What resin is everyone using on their Form 2 that is similar to the Grey 4 and produces good quality prints?
Same here; I had thought until looking today that the Grey 4.1 would be supported on the Form 2 as it is on the Form 3, but the documentation looks like it may not recognize the cartridge. Can anyone at Formlabs confirm that if we buy a Grey 4.1 cartridge that it will or will not work (software-wise) with our Form 2 printers? Seems like it should work physically, based on use in the Form 3 printers.
Good Afternoon. Thank you for writing us in the Forums. If you are looking for a Grey option. You could use Grey V4.1., however, you would need to enable open mode on your Form 2 and this stops resin cartridge detection, tank detection,. heating , and dispensing of resin.
If you are looking for a resin for the Form 2 without Open Material Mode you could go with our Draft Resin, it is gray in color and also is known for its smooth grey finish and high accuracy..
Hello Corey,
The Formulation of Grey V4.1 is different than V4. However, you could enable Open Mode to use Grey V4.1 if you wanted to test it out on the Form 2. Open mode does disable dispensing, heating, mixing , and both tank and cartridge detection however.
If you still have old v4 cartridges you can just refill them with v4 it will work check this thread.
I would not recommend filling the Grey V4 cartridges, as after a certain amount of resin has been dispensed from the cartridge, it will lock out. Open Material Mode would be the better solution in this case.
Correct, but it’s the best way for a user to confirm that v4.1 works just as v4. The cartridge will lock out after 3 to 4 L so worth it. Even more if you pour resin manually the first time. Open material mode produces terrible results because of disabled mixer and heating not a surprise to have it as the ONLY advise and direction so the user wastes material, get terrible results and might think of just buying a new f4 machine.
I’m considering trying out the Color Base Resin (Form 3) 0.8 L on my Form 2. Does anyone have experience with this resin?
