Printing with 0.025mm layer height on Form 4L

Has anyone tried printing with 0.025mm layer height in any resin? None of the official print settings for the 4L seem to support this, but the settings for the 4 do (I know I can create custom settings with a 0.025mm layer height).

I was planning on trying it out with precision resin - I understand the print time will be rather long .

Hi @jwfortx,

You can see our Form 4L Print Settings Roadmap here. As of today, it looks like there are plans for 0.025mm layer height settings to be developed for Black, Clear, and Grey by May, as well as Precision Model by March. Resins denoted by an “x” indicate that there are no plans to develop a validated setting for that combination of Resin and Layer Height for that printer. As the timeline changes and more print settings are planned, that roadmap chart will be updated! In the meantime, you are more than welcome to use Print Settings Editor to try it yourself, but it will involve some trial and error on your end to get the reliability and dimensional accuracy of a validated setting. Hope this helps!

Thanks! We’ll just keep printing at 0.05mm for now, looking forward to the 0.025!

I’ve heard there’s a hack…

Not really a “hack”, but you can use Print Settings Editor to develop/tweak your own settings. However, it will require some trial and error and we cannot guarantee the matched aesthetics, speed optimizations, and material properties as our validated settings, which go through rigorous development. But the 100 or 50 µm settings should be good starting points. Let me know how it goes if you try it out!

hah…logged in with the wrong account ^

I have every intention of going through the print settings one of these days when I have time to experiment. Looks like a whole new world!

Curious if any of you have seen noticeable differences in accuracy from .025mm vs .05. Our lab tends to print in .05mm and I just have a hard justifying the time increase vs the increase in detail.

We sand blast our parts to get a specific surface finish, but with 0.05mm layer height it needs a pre-sanding step to remove the visible layer lines. We’re hoping that printing at a 0.025mm layer height will eliminate this step, but we’ve not yet tested it.
