Running Preform version 3.2.3
Running Connexion 3Dx Ware 64 version 10-6-4_r3119
Running Windows 10 v1909
These issues started after upgrading to Preform 3.2.2 and then also followed into 3.2.3. I also followed up with updating my Connexion drivers to 10-6-4_r3119 from 10-5-15_r2944
Symptoms;
Preform will not launch. The initial blank window will open, but then becomes unresponsive. The application has to be shut down through the Task Manager.
Launching Preform will cause the 3DxWare driver to stop functioning. So all of my other applications that use the space mouse no longer have access to the hardware. Restart required.
If I uninstall the Connexion driver Preform launches without issue — but the spacemouse is useless.
What I have tried;
Uninstall current connexion driver — Install older driver
Uninstall current Preform – Re-install current version of Preform
Uninstall current Preform – Install current connexion – re install current Preform
The unfortunate point to this is I don’t even use the spacemouse in Preform — but it breaks the spacemouse in all other applications.
I have a SpaceMouse. I probably haven’t used it since 3.2.2, and just plugged it in to recharge. I’ll do some tests today, check driver versions, and let you know if I have the same issue.
EDIT: I tested while my SpaceMouse was still plugged in charging via USB. Preform 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 both launched OK for me, they took between 16-35 seconds to come up. The SpaceMouse works in them (able to rotate the view).
My SpaceMouse drivers might be older than yours. Per Device Manager:

Driver Provider
Driver Version
3Dconnexion KMJ Emulator
3Dconnexion
1.0.3.0
3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro Wireless
3Dconnexion
1.4.2.14725
3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro Wireless Receiver
3Dconnexion

I’m on 64-bit Windows 7, and those might or might not have come from an installer package named 3DxWare64_v10-5-7_r2779.
Hope you’re able to track down the source of your woes! If it turns out to be an incompatibility with the latest drivers, thanks for blazing the way for us ;-).
Thanks David for giving it a try. I also rolled the driver back to something from 2016 same issue.
EDIT —
If you have a few more minutes to throw away on this issue, could you load up Preform, then open the advanced settings in 3Dconnexion and change the Zoom Direction to Up / Down? Then see if PreForm is locked up?
—Note my PreForm will lock up with any changes in the advanced settings.
Wow — You really dug into this one. Thanks for giving it an effort. I believe I have found the issue (at least on my system configuration)
After installing and re-installing, then dumping other applications. I decided to give it a try under a different windows user profile. Bingo – It worked. So I dumped my old windows profile and rebuilt a new one. Then worked on re-configuring applications…
All was well until I loaded the profile settings for the spacemouse – Preform locked up again.
I simply reset the 3dconnexion profile to defaults and whamo — it worked again.

I loaded Preform, then while it was running went to the Advanced settings in the 3Dconnexion properties and made the change. Preform didn’t lock up for me. Here are my settings before:
and after:
I never noticed how that settings screen changes depending what application last had focus. So I learned something new today.
