Just wanted to post the two things I’ve done to my flex plates that have been big upgrades for me. I’ll work on a long form YouTube video explaining more on this in the future.
Sandblasting the sheet. This (mostly) got rid of the little spot welds along the edge and also gives me a beautiful matte finish that matches more closely to the rest of printed parts. The brushed finish was cool, but it was often a stark contrast to the side walls.
Made better handles. I hated how the stock handles sit flush to the table and also didn’t lock into place with the original 4L build plate jig. My new handles now solve both problems and makes working with the plate way easier.
They look great! Interesting idea about blasting the plate, might be something I do as some of those weld spots show up in my prints, looks odd having series of 3 dots everywhere. I would love to have a 4L at some point, maybe I can sell a body part or two to save up for it
Thanks! Sandblasting will definitely hide the weld spots. You can still kind of see the spots on my plate, but because the surface is now a lot more diffuse, it doesn’t really show up on prints. I really love the blasted finish.
They recently dropped the 4L price, so maybe you only have to give up one arm now instead of two
