Form4 Flex build plate detaching mid print

Hi everyone,

We recently purchased a new Build Platform Flex for our Form 4 machine and tried using it with Grey Resin V5. During the first print, we had a major failure: the flex plate detached mid-print, which triggered a “debris found by mixer” error.

At first, we assumed it was a one-time issue. We removed the plate completely and reattached it carefully.

However, on the second print, the plate flexed in the opposite direction and splashed resin toward the lead screw area. I cleaned the resin from the areas I could reach, but when I inspected the gap near the lead screw, I noticed a large blob of resin on the PCB. I immediately powered off the printer, and I am now unsure how to safely clean it.

We have already contacted Formlabs Support, but I wanted to ask here as well: has anyone else experienced a malfunction this severe with the Build Platform Flex?

I have attached a few images for reference.

Thanks,

Vardhamann

I am having the same issues. Mine was fine with the grey V5 resin, but with the clear V5, the flex plate seems to be stuck to the surface of the vat and then violently springs up, splattering the whole of the inside of the printer! I have ordered a standard build plate for the clear, but I really shouldn’t have to - I have not changed any settings at all from Formlabs standard.

@Vardhamann @chriswatton66 - did you guys ever figure out why this was happening? Encountering something similar on my 4L

It was my fault it was happening, as I was using the grey resin profiles for raft and supports, instead of getting rid of the supports and using the clear resin variables. Once I used raft and supports for clear resin (rather than imorting a file set up for grey resin), the problem went away.

Hi, not really sure, there is one part that had a large flat surface,
I had printed the part twice, the first time it was towards the front of the build plate, and the next it was towards the back ( you can see a flat ring in one of the images) and the plate separated in the same side as the part.
I ended up having to change the orientation to get rid of this issue.
Had used the proper settings and preform didn’t complain about any cupping issues at all.

No help from support either.

Have not had the same issue with any other resin, build plate combo

Interesting thanks! I just experienced something similar the other day which is why I asked here.

4L flex plate detached mid print. Seems to be from the thicker part in the back. I moved the part and this didn’t happen anymore. Odd because the size of that part is relatively small so kind of unusual.
