What would you suggest to Formlabs for a new “Fuse” device?

Hi, I hope this post can address some customer wishes for Formlabs in future “fuse” devices.
I personally would like to see the possibility of easy material changes (using interfaces between powder and containers on both the printer and the sift). I think it would be an incredible technical move that would cut out all the competitors.
What suggestions would you have?

Well, affordable material for one. Can´t think of any other improvements tbh. With the latest updates it kind of hits a new level of awesomeness.

I think a smaller layer thickness (less than 0.110mm) will be mandatory, go at least to 0.08mm or less!

The possibility of easy material changes would be easily implemented through removable contact interfaces and the possibility of cleaning the feeder vane easily, as well as the fuse sift. If Formlabs made a machine with these features it would break the market by literally cutting out all the competitors

  1. I’d just want a slightly larger X/Y build volume… just having another inch in both would make a big difference for us personally with some larger parts.
  2. Other “Production Materials”… right now Nylon 12 seems to be the only day after day, “production ready” material, and at an “ok” price point and refresh rate. We were happy with Nylon 12 GF performance but at a 70% refresh rate needed for consistency and all that extra Sift material going in the trash combined with the cost to do so was not sustainable for production parts. Nylon CF from what I have heard is definitely more of a “prototype” material as there is no way at that cost it could be used for production and it is not very dependable to print day after day in production.

I personally don’t want a “cheaper” SLS printer…I’d buy a more expensive one… but materials have to improve and come down in cost so that I can open up business to 90% of the customers that I have approach me that aren’t in “aerospace or defense” budgets…
