WashL Station shows “Insert Solvent Monitor” although it is installed – device does not move

Hello everyone,

we are currently having an issue with our Formlabs WashL Station and I’d like to ask if anyone has experienced something similar.

The WashL Station displays the error message “Insert Solvent Monitor”, even though the solvent monitor is inserted correctly and plugged in. When this message is shown, the device does not start washing and does not move at all.

After restarting the machine, it works for exactly one wash cycle, but then the problem comes back. Even worse, the platform sometimes stays in the lower position, submerged in the IPA bath, which is obviously very bad for the printed parts if it is not noticed immediately.

What I have tried so far:

  • Removed the solvent monitor

  • Cleaned it carefully

  • Reinstalled and reconnected it

Unfortunately, this did not solve the issue.

Has anyone here had a similar problem with the WashL Station or the solvent monitor?
If so, how did you fix it? Was it a sensor issue, cable problem, firmware, or did the solvent monitor need to be replaced?

Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

@KuemmeMl I’m sorry to hear that you’re having some issues with your Wash L, StaunchChimera. It sounds like it could be a couple of different things that are causing your issues. It could be that you just need a new Solvent Monitor, or that the SOM has gone bad. In either case, I suggest opening a support case so that we can help get this resolved for you.

Update on my situation:

I wanted to provide a quick update. After opening a support ticket, I initially had trouble uploading diagnostic files for quite some time because our IT security restrictions prevented it.

Since the WashL is still under warranty, I was sent a replacement solvent monitor. Unfortunately, this only resolved the issue temporarily. After a few wash cycles, the error reappeared.

I am now back in contact with support, have uploaded diagnostic files again, and am currently waiting for their response. I really hope the problem can be resolved soon.

At the moment, the WashL is unusable—it neither starts the wash cycle nor moves up or down. However, I did discover that it does work if I physically unplug the sensor.
