USB C Ports on 4L

I’ve got the 4L and we’re using the one USB-C port on the back of the 4L to power the pump for the 5L jug of resin, but why is there not two USB-C ports on the back of the 4L, one for each resin pump that might be installed?

Does the one single port have adequate power that I can use a USB-C splitter of some sort and run both pumps from the same port???

Why do you need 2 resin pump simultaneously?

In formlabs manual, only one cartridge can be used, when you use resin pump

Hi Grandmaison! Just like raum commented already, you don’t need to use two resin pumps when using the Resin Pumping System on the Form 4L. It’s enough to insert one resin pump into one of the cartridge slots, and the other slot should be kept empty. Please check this support article for more details. I hope this helps!

OK. Those responses make sense to me…but what doesn’t make sense is why there are two resin ports if only one can be used at any time? Is it to allow for huge print operations of large objects where the same resin material might be fed from two jugs of the same resin material, and left unattended while it’s printing?

Seems unusual to have to ports if only one is used at a time. Redundancy in the event of one of them fails maybe???

OH, nevermind. It now occurs to me (as a newbie) that many people might print from smaller liter sized resin cartridges and not from a pump. I’m sure the machine can then utilize both to allow for the dispensing of 2 liters of material. And I can see a situation whereby a user might keep a reserve and swap out the empty while the machine is still dispensing the other…allowing for more than 2L of resin to be used if needed.

I’m new here to Formlabs, so please excuse my dumb questions as I learn!

That’s exactly what it is - without a resin pump, a single 1L cartridge would not go far on a large printer. This forum is here to help figure things out, so don’t hesitate to ask!
