Horrible Failure Mode with Resin Pumps

We just started using two resin pump systems for our Form 4’s. One pump is White and one pump is Clear. We had a Clear print going and the Clear pump cartridge was installed on the printer. However, the printer was connected to the White pump through the USB C cable. Unbeknownst to the person who started the print, resin started pumping out of the White pump cartridge which was stored on the shelf instead of the Clear pump cartridge. We came back to find liters of resin all over our shop. The only reason we checked is because there was a low resin warning on the Clear print (since it was not being refilled).

I am baffled at how this failure mode has made it to the market.

There is no warning or error message that things are not connected properly. Or that resin is not filling up in the tank even though the machine is supposed to be dumping liters of resin into the cartridge. There has to be a check that the cartridge installed in the machine is the same cartridge that is connected through the USB C, otherwise you risk dumping resin out of an unknown cartridge.

@Garrett Thank you for writing us here in the forums

Which ever pump is plugged in is what is activated by the printer. While I do understand the frustration here, we would not recommend having a resin pump plugged in that is not to be used with the next print.

The USB is what gives it power, but because the correct one was sitting in the printer, it suspected that what that pump was connected to. It can’t actually tell what 5L the pump is pulling from.

I can however share this information with our team to see if this could be added to a firmware update in the future.

I am sorry to hear that you had quite a resin spill as well. Please follow this guide to clean up the resin and please reach out to us in customer support if you have any further questions.
