I’ve submitted a ticket with feature requests but thought I would throw it down here as well.
I think the texture engine has a lot of potential, but right now lacks some important things:
- The ability to retain and edit a previously applied texture (seems like a new texture will just apply on top of whatever is already applied)
- The ability to texture faces selectively (I know this may be harder than it sounds)
- The ability to select specific surface finish standards from a list (eg. SPI D1, VDI 24, etc.) and have preform automatically apply these textures that have been verified at Formlabs to be close to their injection molded counterpat
I think #3 has huge implications for product designers. Sometimes it’s hard to visualize what a product will look like with a texture applied. Being able to automatically apply a known injection molding texture and see it on a 3D printed prototype could be an amazing capability.
As always, thanks to the Formlabs team for considering
