Suggestions on how to apply bitmap as texture/bump map Software

Hi,

I have been trying to apply an image of myself on my iPhone case (as seen in the attachment).  I did this via Photoshop CC, built it appears to have a couple of bugs, as you can tell when viewing my screen shot of the .stl in Rhino.  I have difficulty placing the bmp, plus when it produces the .stl, it deforms the case, and misplaces the texture even further.

I have tried to do this in Rhino, but I have the MAC version, and its features are different than the PC’s, so following along with the tutorial a guy does on youtube with a ring, is challenging(though a good tutorial).

It’s been a while since I’ve used Blender, so I have to re-learn almost everything, and don’t want to find out in the end that the texture won’t export.  Anyone one know if it does?

Basically - anyone have any recommendations on how to get this done?  I figure more and more people will want to start adding texture to their prints.

Thanks for your help.

I use 3ds max and you apply a displace mesh modifier to a model that is high poly then import your image  in grayscale into the modifier and you have your displacement - not sure about rhino though.
