I’m having an issue with my Fuse Sift where the sifted powder hopper display will sometimes suddenly show as completely full at 8 kg, but when I try to fill and mix, it reads 0 kg and is actually empty. It seems like the sifting process isn’t working properly—after 90 minutes of sifting, I’m still left with a pile of unsifted powder that won’t move down into the hopper. Could this be a clog or blockage, and does anyone have tips for troubleshooting or fixing it? I just got the surface grate replaced a few months ago.
UPDATE: I was able to remove the pile that accumulated (probably about ~4kg) by slowly sifting portions and eventually got it all down into the hopper. The sifted powder hopper sensor is still reading 8kg. When I go to fill and mix the cartridge, the sift filled until it displayed the “100% fill” but when I inspected inside the cartridge, it was probably only 70% full (with the sifted powder sensor reading 8kg and the fresh powder sensor reading 2kg). I have my refresh rate set to 30%. See image below. Still not sure what’s happening. Still seems like an issue with the sifting function?
Have you cleaned the sensors below the screen? They work pretty well covered in dust but that’s what it uses to measure how full the hopper is. That’s why it’s only in variables of 2. I assume that the shape of the hopper and the different surface tension of different powders combined with the shape of the hopper make it hard to reliably weigh how much powder is remaining. They can probably get really close if you don’t change material and the machine had enough logic to learn from cycles and fill logs.
I noticed when we had very high humidity in our space that the sensors often would be covered and once we moved to our new facilities that problem went away as we had a controlled environment. Could be just coincidens but nothing surprises me anymore regarding the printers.
Also, you very much need to brush the sensor once in a while.
ive seen similar symptoms once we started running a swamp cooler in the building, even though the room where the sift is in is climate controlled, the humidity increases. the white material i am using has ALOT more static cling too, the sensor throw false “full” flags often.
I had a similar issue too, though the first thing I did was to downgrade my firmware to 1.6.0-2396 which is the FIRST firmware that introduced “Glovebox Mode” and that fixed the issue for me. I am using PA12.
Specifically, SIFT would trigger the “8KG limit warning” within minutes of a sift operation.
My sifted hopper would be anything from fully empty when I start sifting to having 2KG and also when having 4KG.
