I’m new to printing with PreForm on a Form 4L, and I’m really shocked about how slow it is. I’ve been working for 8+ hours just to get supports built and slicing done on a 330 mm x 240 mm x 60 mm STL. It’s also very strange that all of the functions (Generate Supports, Hollow, etc) only seem to peak at 7-8% CPU utilization on my system. Is this expected performance?
My model has about 5M polys, which seems totally appropriate for model of this size that has a bunch of small details on its surfaces. I am on Win 11, a brand new AMD Ryzen (32 cores), 256 GB RAM, and dual NVidia 5090’s… PreForm Build 3.46.1.500
Would appreciate any tuning recommendations anyone can provide!
@smack It sounds like your computer is more than capable of handling the processing of your files. Knowing that, I suspect the issue is with PreForm itself. I have a couple of suggestions for you.
I sometimes notice rogue instances of preform or memory leaks. Make sure you kill any extra instances and/or reboot your computer if you’re finding it extremely slow. That’s helped me in the past.
@smack I rolled back my version of PreForm since I, too, was having a really slow experience trying to create supports and send them to the printer. It helped a little. I have submitted a request to our Software team to review this for us.
