Please help me understand cause/effect of adding texture and dimensional accuracy

Please help me understand cause-effect of adding texture and dimensional accuracy on Fuse1+30W, PA12. If a part in CAD has a nominal dimension of 50mm, and I add a texture with an amplitude of 1.0mm and an offset of -0.25mm, will Preform automatically compensate/change the CAD, ensuring the model with texture is printed with 50mm dimension inclusive of texture after printing?

I.e., the part would be printed with texture, and the “top peaks” of the texture would reach out to be exactly at 50mm.

If I need a part that is 50mm and I add texture, I need the part to be 50mm (+/- the standard for Fuse1+)

Sorry, trying to explain a few ways to make sure I’m clear with the question.

If I had to guess, I’d say I need a texture amplitude of 0.25 and an offset of -0.25 to get the 50mm dimension after printing.

With an offset 0, the texture is “embossed” - it purely extends outwards to a maximum value of amplitude.
Offset is an addition on top of this shift: with an offset of 1.0mm and an amplitude of 1.0mm, your part might extend 2.0mm outside of its original place.
So your guess is right, using -0.25mm offset and 0.25mm amplitude means that the outer boundary of your part should remain the same, it’s as if the texture was “engraved” into your part.

Let me mention that pushing the texture inwards has an increased chance of causing self-intersections in your meshes, possibly causing some defects in the texture, so I recommend having a thorough look, see if the part looks good after texturing.

I am curious what your use case is though - I am under the assumption that the faces which need to be dimensionally accurate (50mm±) are precise faces of the part, unlike textured faces which are either aesthetic or functional, like providing grip to handle, which uses have no need for dimensional accuracy.

Super helpful Marton. Thank you. No use case yet, just wanted to suggest it to a client and did not know exactly, so wanted to get more info on it before I suggested, so I could have the answer when the question inevitably came up.
