Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with their Fuse1 printers randomly selecting things from the menu? I’ve had it on multiple occasions whilst printers have been idle overnight that things have been selected. I even had one morning where I came into a machine that had tried to run a print with a completed print already in the machine! The display touch screens are always cleaned and free from dust so not sure what the issue is here.
It does remind me of this :

Maybe @henryqiu can review your log to see what happened ?
To be honest, yes.
We have found that if the Fuse is left on the camera screen and not touched for a long time, the button for priming the Fuse is virtually “pressed,” prompting the Fuse to clean the IR sensor in order to start the priming cycle.
We therefore always place the Fuse on the screen with the temperature and powder fill level overview. Then nothing happens, so we hardly ever have to deal with the problem.
But yes, sometimes the Fuse has a temporary mind of its own.
Yes its commonly known as ghost touches by the formlabs techs.
Ah this is a really good tip. Thank you.
This is exactly what happened! Thanks for tagging this.
Hi @AntHope , thanks for letting us know about this phenomenon! You could try reseating the display cable. If it doesn’t help, please do open a support case here and we’ll look into this.
Reseat the display cable following the instructions in the applicable guide:
It’s an interesting idea to check the display cable. However, since this error seems to occur in the same way for several users, I think it’s extremely unlikely that the display cable is causing problems for everyone. In the same way…
I actually think that this is more likely to be a problem with the firmware or with the sensitivity of the display.
In my opinion, both of these could be ruled out if the buttons on the fuse for priming and starting printing were adjusted so that the buttons either had to be pressed for 2 full seconds or a slider movement had to be performed, such as when opening the fuse door.
Hi AntHope, can you let me know what firmware version and build the Fuse is on? You can also upload logs via the settings menu and I can send it along to our engineers to take a look. We’re aware of the phantom “ghost” touches and are working to figure out what is causing them and how to prevent them.
Out of curiosity, can you also send a photo of your Fuse and the screen in its current state?
We have two Fuse 1+ printers. One experienced ghost selection problems and one did not. Formlabs tech support asked to do a forced reinstall of the firmware (auto-update would state that it is up-to-date). Seems to have worked, but I cannot say for sure because the problem is intermittent. We keep build chambers disconnected when not in use so that it does not try to prime it. I can see how it could cause damage if nobody removed the build chamber and then it starts priming.
this is worrying me like crazy right now after reading several posts about this issue. I always start full chamber prints on fridays, and my fear is coming to work on a monday morning and finding a shitshow in the printers. If that happens, im gonna explode on someone for not notifying us about this issue. How hard can it be to notify every Fuse 1 user about dangerous issues like this.
Cause i bet this can result in more damage than a broken printer.. This simply cannot happen. Until i get some info about this im not gonna print during weekends, witch is a loss for us financially.
I’ve seen this happen when there’s a bit of fine dust or resin residue on the edges of the screen bezel - have you tried giving it a really thorough wipe with a microfiber cloth? If that doesn’t do it, sometimes reseating the touchscreen ribbon cable fixes it (there’s a guide on the support site for that).
As Henry mentioned in another thread, this is indeed a rare occurrence that seems to be triggered by factors like physical screen degradation, debris, or powder on the display - so cleaning the touchscreen is a good measure to prevent this.
An upcoming future firmware is also planned to introduce a further guardrail, through a check that blocks the printer from priming unless it detects that the build chamber and plug has been removed and reseated since the last print. Thanks for your patience while we get this out to you!
I’ve had this since day 1 with my printer - they have replaced all the display cables and the touchscreen itself. Formlabs doesn’t seem to want to look at replacing the control board on my printer because they keep wanting to send me more screens but to be honest this seems far more like a controller issue than a dirty screen etc. I’ve been through 2 full touchscreen replacements now with no resolution across multiple firmwares. Formlabs just keeps telling me it’s a super rare issue - yet here we are again! Mine seems to be completely random and will at times try to cancel active prints as well lol - it’s a bloody liabillity. I’ve even had the tech ask me if anyone was around and maybe messing with it while I wasn’t around. More than a tad frustrating!
