Model appears deformed with large pieces cut off?

Hello everyone! I’m new to resin printing and I’m experimenting with the Form 4 before I get into printing orders. One of the things I decided to print was this unicorn of light model by loubie. When it came out, it ended up missing a bunch of features and it looks almost like it’d been deliberately cut up during the printing process? I printed a cleaning sheet, but there was no sign of debris at all. (Also, I am a fool and printed it solid all the way through haha, I don’t know if that could have contributed to the failure )
This was printed using the Form 4 with grey v5 resin, has anyone else had similar failures?

Good Morning @plyever ,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here at your model seeing a print failure we call explosion/undeveloped features. This type of failure is often caused by another type of failure, such as a delamination or a part tearing off of the supports earlier in the print. The cured resin in the tank then blocks the laser & cures an ever-growing “pancake” in the bottom of the resin tank, resulting in that v-shaped void in the part. There are a few things that can cause this type of failure, such as contaminated optics, worn or damaged tank film, or part orientation.

I would like to take a few steps to troubleshoot this here with you:

  • Please check that when your build platform is locked in, that it does not wobble. Also, check that when locked in that it cannot be pulled off of the mount. If it can or it wobbles, this could be why you are seeing this issue. I can then send along some steps to get this resolved.
  • Please align your build platform. When the BP gets misaligned, we can start to see print failures like this.
  • Please clean and inspect your resin tank. You would want to look for any marks on the inside of the tank film that could block the light from curing your part properly.

If after taking these first few steps , you do not see a better result, I would recommend starting a support case here. We could then take a look at your .formfile ( this is your file set up in Preform on supports and saved using file>save as) and send you additional steps to get you up and printing without these errors.

Thank you for this very helpful response and apologies for the late reply! This was an insightful read, I did not have any idea of what I was looking at, but this makes perfect sense.

While the build platform was properly locked onto the mount, the whole table would wobble if a door nearby was slammed. We have adjusted the positioning of the table to avoid this, and the delamination issue seems to be resolved. Thank you again!
