I also question the legality of preventing a user from using expired resin. Even if it were to cause issues, it should still be the user’s decision with maybe lack of support etc. for doing so.

Wow, that is something. Are you saying they did it just now or back in 2018?
I thought a couple of user was still able to use it since they posted them above.
Or can they only see them but not print?
If they released the firmware just now, I guess a lot of people may still benefit since they can just block the update…
If they did in 2018… I guess I have to hook the printer up to logic analyzer to try to see how the 4C chips work, which is gonna be a PITA. I still wonder how universal cartridge work, did they seriously broke both the both 4C chip and the hash?
Looks like the pull up isn’t working right. Maybe use a lower value resistor, something like 2-3k
If you are using 3v pull up, maybe go down to 1.5k

So my guess is Universal catridge also doesn’t work with the new firmware?
From my experience in the industry, you are not gonna be able to push out a hardware firmware update in a week. My guess is with their big open platform launch (7k per printer). They probably plan to do this for a long time. Since with a hacked catridge and print settings editor, you bascially have a “open license”.
Universal catridge is out for a while, somebody on alibaba is also selling a different device with unlimited “resets”… Formlabs acknowdge they knew about universal cartridge back in 2020, and anybody that knows a bit about electronics can probably reverse engineer those.
AFAIK they would risk legal action to block catridges, unless they did some terms and condition thing in their update. They may just be banking on nobody would care enough to sue them.
So for everybody else… don’t update your form 3 to 2.3.0 lol
