Hollow prints explode during printing

4.5 inch, hollow print keeps blowing out during printing. Has numerous drainage holes along bottom, 1 on top and 2 on the sides near the top of the model. Has internal supports. Using Form Labs 4, Tough 2000 Resin V1.1.

Can you show a screenshot of what the model looks like in PreForm?

Yup. Slightly raised forward. Looks like the orientation seen from the previous screenshot was from an earlier print. Either way, the results are still the same-exploding walls. Thanks.

is this auto-oriented with auto generated supports? What’s the wall thickness?

any lines/faces that are parallel to the build plate will cause higher pulling forces on the model. If your model is breaking apart during printing, it’s losing the ‘tug of war’ between the FEP and build plate. You might have better suffice quality if you print flat on the build plate on the long flat side of the model, that would create less pulling forces.

The placement of your drain holes don’t make sense. Are there any drain holes on the bottom closest to the build plate? Does preform flag cupping when it does it’s validation checks?

Blowouts like this are usually caused by cupping…and if you don’t have drain holes at the bottom that’s probably what’s happening.

The supports are auto generated. The wall thickness is 1.24mm.

Admittedly, the side holes don’t make sense. Experimenting after numerous failures. The green markings indicate all drain holes. The square ones were placed in zbrush. The round were done in preform. The round ones are all aligned toward the front curve where the model starts angling from. After the holes were placed there were no warnings for cupping. Thanks for taking the time to look into this.

drain holes should be placed at the surface/face closest to the build plate, this prevents suction forces throughout the entire print. Assuming you corrected that in your recent photo.

Yes, we replaced the holes as you suggested. The good news is that I believe we found the reason for the blowouts. The bottom of the resin tank had some slight damage on it. It has since been replaced and no more blowouts! Thanks to you and to everyone for your time and help. We truly appeciate it!
