Has anyone had a build chamber disconnect your wifi?

I’ve noticed something strange with one of our build chambers. When this build chamber is plugged in, it somehow causes our printer to appear offline. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

On a related note, has anyone worn out a build chamber before? Formlabs is suggesting that our build chamber needs to be replaced, as it is melting powder to the build plate while using PA12 Tough. It is approx 2 years old.

Our printers have not exhibited this behavior. We do have issues with the printers and accessories disconnecting from our wifi network at random times but I assume its the distance to the router.

How many hours are on your build chamber? I wonder what it is that can wear out. Maybe temp sensors but why couldn’t those be replaced?

Hi @bigdogsteel

Thank you for writing in.
This does sound highly unusual to be honest. I’ve searched our internal documentation, engineering chats and the support system for anything like this but wasn’t successful in digging up a whole lot.

What I could see happening is the build chamber cable harness to be worn out to a point where it could be causing a short circuit somewhere that randomly chose to affect the Wi-Fi somehow (like I mentioned, highly unusual)?
Very likely you’ve already looked at your build chambers connecter with whomever you are troubleshooting this, my first steps would be cleaning of the pins using compressed air and contact spray.
Unfortunately the cable harness on the build chamber can’t be replaced (only printer side).
If you want me to take a look at the conversation you had with one of our colleagues, feel free to send me a DM with your ticket number or printer name and I’d be happy to investigate further.

Kind regards
Jakob

It may have been a fluke, but the day we were having issues with it, we took the chamber out and put it in another fuse 1+, and it went “offline”. Since then we revamped just about everything we could think of in the offices where the printers are located and its been better, yesterday I could see both printers in preform for the first time in a while. We ordered some new contact cleaner we are going to try today. It may have been a coincidence, but on the day we experienced issues, we removed the chamber and placed it in another fuse 1+, and it went “offline.” Since then, we have revamped nearly everything we could think of in the offices where the printers are located, and things have improved.
