Form 3 Poor Build Plate Adherence and Print Failure

Hello - I’m running into an issue with my Form 3 and hoping someone here has seen this before.

I’m getting complete print failures with both Tough 1500 and Grey Pro resins. Nothing is adhering to the build plate at all, and after the print finishes, the plate is completely clean.

With Grey Pro, I was able to run a cleaning mesh and found cured resin stuck to the bottom of the tank. With Tough 1500, I’ve also noticed cured flakes floating in the tank (see photo), which I had to remove manually.

Both tanks were new and clean before printing, and the build plate is relatively new as well.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have ideas on what might be causing this?

Thanks!

What do you use to clean your build platform also have you printed any silicone?

I use 99% IPA and paper towels to clean the build platform between prints. And yes - I also print with silicone pretty often with the same build plate.

That’s your problem. Silicone makes the build plate very slippery/oily and will cause issues on other resins. You’re supposed to have a dedicated BP for silicone.

As @leonhart88 says above its the silicone causing this issue We bought the Stainless Steel Build platform to run only silicone parts on that way it will differentiate them from the others If you have acetone and and some steel wool that may help but also might take a few cleanings id do a few with IPA first use a plastic razorblade and scrape the surface and then the acetone and it should eliminate this issue.

@leonhart88 @MattRForerunner Thanks for your help. I just looked at my build plate again and did notice it was oily feeling - likely residue from previous silicone prints. I just ordered a new dedicated build plate and hopefully this resolves the issue. Thanks!

I’ve tried reconditioning the plate after using silicone…really difficult so I ended up just using two dedicated.

@minaschaafsma make sure you put a label on top so you know which is which :slightly_smiling_face:

When I had this issue I just put it in our two man blast chamber and hit it with media got it right off but I thought Id suggest a less aggressive way first.
