My dental crowns, printed using Formlabs Permanent Crown resin, broke a week after being placed on patients. I adhered to the recommended workflow, including the prescribed wash and cure times. Additionally, I noticed that single crowns lasted longer than bridges, with the bridges nearly breaking immediately after fitting. Could you please suggest changes to the workflow that might enhance the strength of the dental crowns?
Hey @Osamaasif!
Sorry to hear you’re seeing some issues with your recent prints! I’m afraid I’m not an expert on Dental printing, but I did reach out to our in-house dental team, and they had some suggestions!
- The material itself you’re using is formulated specifically for crowns, so producing larger prints than single crowns could certainly be causing a few issues.
- Permanent Crown resin has a minimum thickness of 1mm, so it’s worth confirming that you’re within the approximate tolerances.
- Can I ask about your post-processing setup after printing? Are you using the Form Wash/Cure, or a third-party solution?
If we check all these possible culprits and you’re still seeing this type of issue, at that point it’s worth reaching out to our support team and they’d be happy to dig into things with you!
Hi @DKirch
Thank you for your quick response. First, I want to emphasize that all my permanent crowns are well above the minimum thickness of 1mm. Additionally, I’m using the Form Wash and Form Cure for post-processing, strictly following the recommended wash and cure times. I think it would be best to reach out to your support team. Thanks again.
My pleasure!
I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help here, but our support team is excellent and I’m sure they’ll be able to get to the bottom of it.
