+1 3D connexion. I have the space explorer and I hate manipulating 3D models without it… In fact I started an earlier thread on this exact same topic. I was also asking for perspective view support - rather than flat projection.
Also I just can’t see the Leap being useful, I have one and agree with Hirudin, it’s not a tool.
thread bump - this is pretty much the only outstanding feature that I really want - editable supports, better support structures, more streamlined bases, etc… these have all been fantastic additions to Preform.
3D mouse support (specifically 3DConnexion mice since they are most popular, and also it’s what I have) - would make another huge difference. I never use the default supports, I always manually edit the supports for best results, which means a lot of model rotation/translation - so 3D mouse support would be an enormous boon.
Also it would be great to have perspective view perhaps as an option instead of only flat projection - but 3D mouse support is absolutely the thing …
Tried one of those, really didn’t like it, though it might not be as much of an issue in something like Preform since I was using it in 3ds Max where you have lots of keyboard shortcuts you need to use along with the mouse.
Also would love to see 3D mouse support - if you guys are seriously trying to cater to engineers with all the materials, you might as well hit this (hopefully) low hanging fruit feature.
Yes I agree. I’ve been a 3D Connexion Space Mouse Pro user for a few years and now also use their CAD mouse for my dominant hand. Besides being compatible with most 3D CAD programs, many 3D printing related software also support these 3D mice such as Stratasys FDM drivers Insight & CatalystEX and Autodesk Meshmixer. So it’d be great if PreForm could follow suit too.
But is it actually helpful in such a simple program like PreForm? I am not against FL putting this in, I don’t need to use it. I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. I haven’t seen anyone give a single reason for wanting this feature other than “I have a 3D mouse”.
When it comes to adding & removing supports it enables you to orient & zoom in on the model at the same time as accurately placing the support point. It’s one of those things that unless you are used to using a 3d mouse for CAD probably won’t seem that big a deal, but if you are it’s significantly more intuitive than using the right mouse button + mouse movement (and usually faster).
It’s also somewhat frustrating having some sw UIs that work with it and some that don’t… It was one of the things that pushed me to 3D Coat for sculpting over ZBrush.
