Adaptive Layer Thickness - Form 4

I’m not able to enable adaptive layer thickness for any material in the latest PreForm (3.48.0.523) for my Form 4, and I can’t find any information regarding whether or not it’s supported.

Specifically I’m trying to enable it for Clear V5, but I don’t see any existing Formlabs Settings for the Form 4 which has adaptive layer thickness enabled, and the radio button in the settings editor for adaptive layering is greyed out. Anybody know what’s going on with that?

I’d love to print my model at an angle to reduce slumping on the initial layers, but without adaptive layering, I’m going to get some stair stepping (or very slow print times) for portions of my model.

Thanks!

Hi @cwarris,

As of right now, we only have constant layer thickness (25 micron, 50 micron, 100 micron) settings on Form 4. The team will take your feedback into account as we plan out future features! For now, we would recommend using the 25 micron print setting for models with shallow curves to reduce the stairstepping effect and for a better surface finish.

Thanks for the response! I’m very happy with the machine, but a lot of the parts I’ll be working on would benefit greatly from adaptive layer thickness. I’m fairly surprised this isn’t implemented in the Form 4. I understand that the underlying curing technology was changed in this version, so I assume that has something to do with feature not being available yet. However given that 25/50/100um are indeed available for many of the resins on the Form 4, I’m guessing it’s more of a QA issue than a technical feat… If that’s the case, I’d be happy to help test.
