I’ve seen in some videos and reference material, that there is a removable exhaust vent cap on the back of the 4L. But, I’ve never seen any specification on it. Is there an adapter that can be used to hook it up to a ventilation system? Our EHS department is very conservative in requesting ventilation of our units. They even want us to exhaust PLA FDM printers! So I’d like to prepare for making a connection to that point on the unit.
I have an STL of that plug. Working on creating an adapter in a STEP file. I’ll share it on the forum.
Here is an adapter for 1.5" and 2" hose. I have not tried this yet. Printing it out today to see if it works.
Form 4 Exhaust Adapter.STEP (240.0 KB)
Please let me know how well it works. And thank you for the STEP file! Do you mind if I remix it for my particular needs?
Go for it! That’s why I provided a STEP file ![]()
In fact, I’ve already modified it with barbs to facilitate a hose clamp. ![]()
already thinking I should make a right angle version
Yea! I’ll probably do the barb and an elbow sweep. My exhaust vent that runs 24/7/365 is above the unit so having a dedicated sweep on it would be useful, I’ll have to likely do a prototype to see how it locks in place to make sure the elbow is pointed upward.
ok, this turned into a bit of a rabbit hole. Done for now. Too much other stuff to do.
This is an elbow that rotates if you print in place on Fuse 1
No Fuse here- but kudos on the great design!
might work on a Form
Once I get ours and have it setup, I’ll give it a try!
Thank you so much for doing this!
Update: I printed the adapter (thank you again!) and combined it with standard pool hose and a miniature inline fan with a speed control. Now my 4L is venting to my building’s passive exhaust and the staff are not fussing. Links:

Great thinking
Made a slight update. Noticed it was tough to lock in the adapter so I added a knurled ring.
Excellent! I plan to copy this.
Are you doing anything to control the fan?
It doesn’t look like it connects to an app. Perhaps there is something I can put on the power line to it that has a timer I can set to 30m-15 hours or so and just cuts power off to it when its done.
Also what speed is good? I’m curious if it possible to set it too high and bother the printer. I figure so and a very low setting works good.
The fan I bought on amazon has a knob for granular control of the fan speed. I didn’t measure the flow directly but I started very low and ended up keeping it there…just enough so that the lab wouldn’t smell any vapors. In an ideal world I would have characterized the vapor smell more carefully, and also tried to induce a print failure by turning the fan “up to eleven”. If I have to revisit this setup I’ll likely do more optimization.
Thanks!
Do you have it running all the time? Or just during prints?
I just leave it on all the time (I’m not paying the electricity bill) but one could also add a wall plug-in timer for the fan motor as well. I like the old school ones with the red and green plastic clips, but there are wifi enabled ones from Govee etc.
