Tough 1500 v2 warping in Cure oven

From 4L and Cure L.

we have one part that we print quite often. Sometimes the print distorts in the Cure oven and prevents the parts from being able to assemble…just sometimes. We have printed this part about 60 times, and about 10 of them get distorted and are unusable.

The diameter goes a little out of round and the long vertical fins get wavy. Additionally, the edges of the fins form a circle to fit into a machined tube. The machined tube is held with a pretty tight tolerance. Some of the prints that are distorted will not fit inside the machined tube.

@Lantech50 Good Morning!

Thank you for writing us here in the Forums. Typically, we would recommend printing and curing this model on supports to prevent warping.

Are you seeing warping right out of the printer or after curing? Can you also share your post processing workflow? This would include wash times, dry time and cure time and temp.

Workflow:

remove part from BP and remove supports.

Wash for 30 minutess in Wash L with TPM solution

Rinse in soapy water for about a minute

Rinse in clean water for about a minute

wipe down with IPA using soft paper towels

Cure in Cure L machine with the settings for Tough 1500 v2. (60 minutes @ 70°C)

@Lantech50 Our recommended wash time is 10 minutes for this resin. Washing the parts for too long , the part can absorb the solvent and cause warping. Are you drying your parts before curing? We recommend 30 minutes or until the parts are fully dry. If the parts are not fully dry and then added to the cure, warping can then occur.

@leonhart88 Did some experimenting with drying parts with a food dehydrator before curing. Long term warp of Form 3 parts - #11 by leonhart88

If you’re seeing some parts warp and others not in the same batch that had the same drying time and workflow, then there’s something else going on.

But if you’re seeing batch to batch that some parts warp and others don’t and you don’t tightly control the amount of drying of your parts (eg. One day you leave it out overnight to dry and another you cute right away) then it could very well be warping caused by excessive solvent not dried off fully.

I don’t think FL publishes absorption of their wash solution in the datasheets but IPA absorption tends to be higher the more flexible the resin so drying is really important for tough, durable and elastomers.

I am a bit late here but I can only confirm what has been said :
IPA / TPM absorption is too often overlooked and letting the parts dry before curing are super-duper important

we use TPM instead of IPA
