…do we really need the optical window? apart from keeping away resin from the main window?
That’s a great question!
Strictly, the answer is no. That being said, the optical window is there more for dust than resin, and in that context, you’ll be very glad it’s there.
It’s possible that some Form 2 printers run inside Class 100 cleanrooms, and that might be a favorable environment for doing without the dust barrier of the optical window.
…Until the tank window leaks… which eventually WILL occur.
… not yet happened after 3 years
Tomorrow, then…
Wish I could say that… as I just had it happen for the first time.
@billb clearly you haven’t printed with a Form 1
As snide remarks go, I’m surprised that FormLabs is so down on the Form 1, especially considering it’s the product that put them on the map.
FWIW, I’ve owned 2 Form 1+ over the last 3 years, and I’ve never had a tank leak. Just goes to show you they don’t make them like they used to.
Oh, I didn’t mean tank leak — I meant dusty optics. The office space here is full of dust, so without the optical window, I had to clean my mirror every few months.
