Windows 8.1 supports 3D printer drivers that allow a 3D application to print to any printer with a compliant driver, just as Word or Excel can print to any printer with Windows print driver.
IMHO, Formlabs needs to provide a 3D printer driver to give its users the flexibility to use their preferred software to access features they may need (such as using OBJ format models); or to print from PreForm on another printer (cheaper, faster, lower quality) for prototyping.
I think this is going to be a required feature for 3D printer and software eventually. Makerbot has already released their driver.
