Please allow us to skip the login screen in Preform

Hi,

Please allow us to skip the login page every single time we open preform.
I have never logged in, and I will never log in. Our printer works completely locally. I have no use for any online functionality, even if our IT department were to allow it.

With the most recent update you guys removed the ‘skip’ button under the login screen and moved it to a way less obvious ‘X’ in the top right. This is not an improvement.

I’m pretty sure I saw a thread talking about this same issue a while ago, and now it’s basically become worse.

Just a simple toggle in the settings would be enough.

Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your request! I have forwarded it to the responsible team for consideration.

Hello, this was an (embarrassing) mistake on our part, Skip button will be back in the next version. For the record, the X button was always there and you can also press Esc to close the dialog.

Thanks for the update.

A toggle would still be much appreciated. As I will never be logging in the whole login screen serves no function to me. I’m fairly certain we’re not the only ones operating this way.
And software from other printer manufacturers doesn’t ask for logins every single time either, so it’s not like it’s an industry standard.

Thanks.

I too would like to toggle this login screen off.

this.. times 100.

The general frustration of NOT having a production-oriented software package is… very tiresome.

  • languishing startup/quit dialogs
  • needless bullsh!t views/issues on the printer interface
  • complete lack of any production oriented printing mode or interface for production printing

EVERY time I have to wait for dialogs to go away so I can move to repeat a print, or click the ‘did your print go well?’ page, I’m severely tempted to start punching NO on every single one, because that would actually mess up the metrix enough that somebody at FL might start to pay attention.
I don’t. yet. Because I try to do the right thing. And I had thought that was in process (and, if i punched the “no”, then I’d be presented with yet another annoying dialog forcing me to click thru..while I’ve got resin-covered gloves on, trying to avoid damaging the screen).

But the chance of that becoming a trend is not zero.

Seriously. it does not help FL at all to waste the time of production users. In fact, it hurts the long term reputation and brand, if FL is actually interested in growing marketshare.

Thanks all for the feedback!

Expect a nice little toggle in an upcoming PreForm release to help mitigate the constant asks to login to dashboard on startup. :tada: :white_check_mark:

The toggle is for 90 days only. Why not just make it a permanent slider? “Don’t ask me again ON/OFF”?

Pretty sad to see that, after ignoring for over one year an easy feature request, the implementation still goes against the rationale of user request.
The request was to disable the login screen completely. If you want to leave the possibility for a temporary disable, please offer it as an alternative, not as the only option.

Thanks.

The use of nag dialogs like this one, and other similar manipulation techniques designed to push users into a desired behavior, have become a plague on the software industry of late.

I’ve asked for the ability to turn this off as well. To state it loud and clear: I don’t want your cloud. Formlabs used to do a pretty decent job with their software but I’m disappointed to see such longstanding lack of respect for the user’s choice in this particular regard.

A toggle is the perfect answer. Limiting its effect to only 90 days is user-hostile and, frankly, just plain stupid. I’m not going to sugarcoat it: Whoever came up with that decision should be put into a more suitable role and replaced by someone who actually cares about doing right by their users.

Thanks for your feedback everybody! We believe that logging into your Formlabs account provides the best workflow experience, which is why we opted for not hiding this option permanently. Your feedback was forwarded to the responsible team though and is useful input!

While you might think that, customers might disagree.

Just hide it in the settings instead of a tick box on the login screen and then people have to at least look for it. People who don’t care about this will not look for it and just register / log in.

You could even have a little popup if you want to disable it through the settings. “Are you sure? You’re missing out on X/Y/Z if you turn this off!”

And then we can say “yes, turn it off anyway”. permanently. Problem solved.

Thank you for forwarding this issue once again.
