In FFF slicers, you can include a command at a particular layer. This could be handy for a number of reasons and should be fairly easy to implement. Any follow up from this discussion way back from the beforetimes?
finally rememberd why I want this feature: multi-color layers. In the single-color FFF world, I’ve used this to generate things like plaques, coasters, 3D “Decals”. A simple example is a 3D QR Code where the base is white and the QR Code is black. If you have multiple color trays, you can swap those out without freaking out the printer. Being able to stop at an exact layer is crucial for this effect to work.
I put a benchy in a bottle a while ago with this method, but I did have to wait and pause manually at the right layer. I think it makes sense as a workaround but wouldn’t be relevant for 99% of our users, as pausing resin prints introduces more issues than with FDM with shrinkage and pause lines.
but resin drops from the top, the second you remove the tray resin will fall into the screen (form4), probably will work on the3 since the LPU can be hidden, but won’t work on the F2.
Yes but even when the platform is held tighly by a locking system that will create a line on the part because after putting the platform back Ii will be on a different position. Have you tried? I did and that is what happened.
I have not tried personally, was merely thinking about possible solutions. Just assumed it shouldn’t be a problem considering how the build platforms lock in on the Formlab systems
I wouldn’t want to move the build plate. Good chance for layer misalignment.
Instead, just have cardboard or some kind of sheet handy and hold that under the part. Might require two extra hands, but shouldn’t be a big deal. Could probably devise something that would go over the build plate to catch drips while the tray is removed.
However, that does bring up a good point. I wonder what the contamination from drips would be like. Could be an interesting mixture where the new color starts.
