FORM 4 Tough 2000 v2 - Slow Tank Filling

After using 3 material cartridges (resine Tough 2000 v2 - 1 liter) on my Form 4 printer, I found the slow filling warning always on screen, to solve this I manually discharge the resine form the cartridge to the tank (by squeezing the cartridge directly on the tank), my local supplier in Spain (SOLID PERFIL 3D) told me that the issue is already communicated to FormLabs but we need to wait for a firmware update. Anybody here had this same issue? anybody knows if there is a planned date for this firmware update? Thank you!

@eufracio_cueto We don’t currently have an update on a firmware fix for this. Please make sure you’re on the latest firmware version, 1.15.0.

Secondly, there is some updated information on our support site, Using Tough 2000 Resin, which may be helpful to you in the meantime.

Also, you can always create a support case with us, and we’ll be happy to work with you one-on-one to see if there is anything else we can do to help you print with efficiency.

I have this issue. I had two botttles dated 251009 that were fine, and another one dated 251105 that produced this warning quite early in its usage. I printed the shim and it still produced this warning. I am on my second bottle dated 251105 and have not had the same issue so far. One small difference between the problematic bottle and the others is that is was kept in a warm place for longer than usual before installation. Normally we keep it there overnight and this allows us to properly shake and mix the resin in the bottle before opening the sealed plastic bag it comes in. I think the one which had the valve problems was in there for a few days before it was mixed and installed. I am sure it did not produce the error immediately though. Perhaps the elevated temperature catalyses the swelling issue that they discuss in the support site.

I have 2 Tough 1500 bottles dated 20251209 that had the slow dispensing warning until I printed/installed the shim. No warnings now and I can see the resin flows properly. I still get a warning about the bottle reaching the end of its useful life but that doesn’t interfere with resin flow. While the shim does the job, it hung up in the printer when I was replacing an old bottle with a new one and broke off a piece. I think the width of the shim’s base is too wide so am considering designing my own to have less overhang around the outer bottle edges.

We had the same issue with two cartridges of Tough 1500 V2, one dispensing the resin extremely slowly, the other not putting out any.
After all kinds of fiddling around for hours, cleaning the valve, trying manually to squeeze out resin (which worked) we finally gave up and just poured the resin into the tank manually.

I probably clicked away hundreds of warnings, both “slow flow” and “replace cartridge” ones for both cartridges…

This was especially bad since we just got the Form 4L and this was our very first printing experience with Formlabs gear. We didn’t have any other resin yet.

We contacted support and learned about the shims, but the first impression was definitely bad.
We don’t know yet if the shims help, but printing a crutch for a 200+ Euro cartridge first thing in a 20000 Euro printing system does not install confidence in a new user..

Support offered a 45 Euro online shop voucher…

The cartridges were from 12/2025 so definitely after the supposed update.

This is crazy, since the machines are so well made and thought out in general.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Glad to hear that the shims generally seem to be working. Please note that while we’ve provided these model files for now, we are also actively testing a permanent solution. We’ll let you know once we have anything to share!

Today we used the shim provided by the supplier, and it worked on the first attempt. The resin jet is now flowing as usual with the good cartridges. This is a temporary solution, and we expect that, based on this feedback, the supplier will be able to improve their future cartridge batches. Attached is an image showing the result.

The shim immediately fixed the flow issues on Tough 1500. I’m not a fan of the excessive, IMO, overhang of the shim’s footprint as it snagged on the housing when swapping bottles and a piece broke off that I had to fish out from behind the tray. I’m going to redesign this part to retain the latches/barbs but reduce the overhang.

@SMMW Glad to hear it’s working! I’ll forward your feedback about the shim design to the responsible team.
