Form 4 resin on form 3 & 3L

I just wanted to share my success printing v5 clear on the form 3 and form 3L.

Long story short, with some minor settings tweaks to the existing v4 resin setting, I can print v5 nicely.

This really does lead me to question why I cant buy the cheaper v5 resin for my form 3.

How does it compare in clarity?

I’m looking at doing this too. The form 4 is just too pricey right now. Can you please share what tweaks you made in the settings?

Also, what’s your strategy for getting the printer to not lock you out from printing with the incompatible cartridge? Thanks!

My guess is manual pouring or maybe they already have the Open Material License

Most of the times, you can just pour the resin with the stock settings using the stock cartridge and it might work.
I recently got greyv4.1 and it works with the v4 profile.

So this information is amazing because it confirms FL is just trying to lock down users, and pushing by discontinuance of materials users to buy new machines. Yes F4 is faster, but materials are cheaper, looks like punishing users for not buying new machines.

I posted the custom resin profile to the resin library, you can find it by opening preform and where it allow you to select the resin type, go to custom resin profiles, then browse community settings. you can download it from there.

the way this works, you still need to use the stock cartridge, but you can pour the 5v resin into the v4 resin cartridge, you get about 2l from a 1l cartridge. basically giving you double the amount of resin but paying the lower v5 price for one for the two litres.

I do not have an Open Material License as Formlabs backed out of sending me one with my educational purchase (long story)

pouring into the cartridge.

v4 311.0 mJcm v2 (+100mJ & 500mJ TopSf).fps (70.0 KB)

clear v4 211.0mjcm.fps (69.9 KB)

I cant seem to find the custom resin profile I uploaded in the custom settings forum, it may have been removed, as such here are the settings

the top one “v4 311..” should do the trick for you.
you may beed to increase or decrease the exposure time based on your results.
