I have rasied this request to your support before but haven´t gotten any response, perhaps im not alone with this request.
I would like to see Formlabs be transparent to your users when you stumble upon bugs in your firmware.
I get that it might take some time to discover potential bugs, but atleast a sticky post here on the forums that lists all the known current bugs would be highly appreciated.
It would save us and Formlabs alot of time opening tickets, waiting for replies etc.
Thanks for sharing your feedback! While we’re not able to open up our internal bug tracking system due to the complexity of tickets and confidentiality (some of these involve proprietary technology or unannounced planned features we’re working on), we want to make sure that your issues are heard. If you encounter specific bugs or issues, we encourage you to share them here on the forums. That way, we can make sure someone from our services or software team replies when there’s an update or fix available. It’s also a great way to let us know what’s affecting users the most, so we can prioritize better. Appreciate you taking the time to share this!
Im not asking you to go full on opening your system. Im asking you to actually aid us in not having to spend hours upon hours troubleshooting/waiting for a reply when you in fact are aware of the issues.
Yes, I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I can see how frustrating it can be to spend time troubleshooting only to later find out it’s a known issue.
I’ve already passed your suggestion internally to the team to see if there’s a way we can improve how we communicate known issues. If you have examples of other companies with a system like this in place, feel free to share them and I can route those in with the feature request as well for reference. In the meantime, if you’re encountering a problem that seems like it could be a bug, sharing it here or reaching out to support is still the best way to get visibility on it. Our goal is to make sure issues are addressed as quickly as possible and to keep you updated when fixes are available.
I appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback. Let me know if there’s a specific issue you’re dealing with right now that I can help escalate.
I like the work you guys do and understand you are limited to whatever your guidelines say you can say, but tbh a canned responses like this do more harm than just ignoring it. Its a pretty common software practice to have a list of known bugs/issues, for whatever reason you guys can’t do it, but acting like this is a novel idea to request this info is a little silly.
Well they do let you know when a bug is discovered at least with the updates to software and firmware and as he said the forum is a tool to look up anyone else that may have this issue some bugs are hard to recreate and some might only happen once or twice so it’s hard to get a list of 1000 bugs that only happen once I feel Formlabs have been very transparent with any known issues that affect the masses and most instances very helpful with ones that affect the slight few they have been working very closely with me on fixing my 4L which we haven’t even been able to do one print on but we are working through possible issues before we decide to return it.
Hi all - thanks for your inputs. We publish our release notes on the website here.
At the time of release, if we know of a bug, we’ll include that too (see the issue for yesterday’s PreForm release). Sometimes, we’ll come in and retroactively update release notes when we find a major bug.
That being said, we are revamping how we share release notes to make them easier to parse. Please feel free to share your feedback here!
FYI we have been releasing these “New in PreForm” videos for quite a while now, (here is the playlist!) though the format and style have definitely evolved over time. I’m curious, was there anything specific about this 3.48 video that stood out to you that the earlier ones were lacking? Always looking for ways to make these more helpful for you all.
I think such short showcase videos about updates and new functions are absolutely great.
Not only are they an extra reminder to check if you are using the latest preform version, they also briefly show how to use the new features so that there are fewer misunderstandings.
Definite praise at this point. I hope that there will be a video like this for all future updates.
