Tough 1500/2000 V2 & Form Wash (or Alternatives?)

Hello,

We’ve just started using the Form 4 with Tough 1500 V2 and Tough 2000 V2 resins. Prior to buying the Tough resins we had setup a Form Wash V2 with Formlabs Resin Washing solution which we like because of the non-flammability.

However, now that we’ve started using Tough resin, We’ve noticed that the Formlabs Resin Washing solution is not recommended for the Tough V2 resins.

Via the compatibility tab here which lists V1 only as compatible:

I’m hoping for input on two questions:

  1. Is the Formlabs Resin Washing solution in fact incompatible with Tough V2 resins? I’ve searched the forum and it seems like there are mixed results, with some people mentioning the Resin Washing solution, others mentioning TPM+IPA, others just IPA.

  2. If >90% IPA is truly the only option for Tough V2 resins does anyone have recommendations on ways to wash these parts safely/effectively? eg. getting a second Form Wash V2 (not desirable because it would require storing IPA in the open), an ultrasonic cleaner (Will be dangerous w/ IPA), or some other DIY solution.

Hoping to get some insight here because these look like great resins but we’re not sure about the practicality and safety of post processing in our setting (An engineering R&D space with 3D printing, soldering, electronics, etc. in one space). Thank you in advance for any answers!

I’ve only washed a couple of Tough 1500 V2 parts with RWS. The surfaces remained a bit tacky, but this could have been an issue on my side with the saturation. After washing, the parts performed as expected. We’ve since moved on to using IPA. Maybe this thread of mine helps you out - I remain rather unconvinced about the performance and usability of RWS.

You can use a sonic wash just put the IPA in a separate container in the water and run it that way we do this for Silicone parts as well

We have 2 form3B machines, and Tough2000v2 is a favorite. We wash by hand if we’re printing other parts with clear, flex, or our daily standard, Surgical Guide. If we have a lot of T2K prints, we’ll clean a washtank and let it be dedicated. Since you can’t store IPA in the open, just get a large glass jar, Drop parts in and put them on a roller or an oscillating plate. Don’t let it stay in for longer than 15~20min. T2K can be a sponge and swell when sitting in IPA too long. Dump the IPA when it gets too dirty, or it no longer cleans. I also used a squirt bottle and brushes to help remove the excess.
