Tearing off supports pre cure

I printed my first print on my new 4L!
On my Form 2 I would cure and then tool cut the supports. I would get a lot of nipples on my print too.

I saw Formlabs is touting ripping the supports right off after print and before curing.

I was trying to do that with my print but it didn’t seem possible. I could push pop the ones around the edges but thats about it.

Form 4L
Tough 1500 V2
Completley stock settings except small tweaks like a bit shorter height off raft. No label.
Unedited auto generated supports

Looking for advice. Is not turning on “Bundled Supports” the issue?
If so what should I know about that feature and what to look out for?
Any other tips, I.E. touch points etc…
Does Tough 1500 V2 affect this ability?
Thanks!

@revel, I just printed in Tough 1500 V2 for the first time last week. I had a smaller print, so it wasn’t bundled, but the touchpoint size was only 0.30 mm. That said, even after curing, I couldn’t just rip these supports off. Some of our materials, like our Tough resins or Durable, just don’t tear away as easily as our standard resins. So, for this material, we’re still cutting the supports to remove them. I certainly feel the pain on this one, because it’s so satisfying when you can rip them off!

Thanks! I got pretty brave with Form 2 and was getting great prints. I can try smaller touch points and also removing some points. And take a look at the bundled option.

Here is the video I saw, and yeah perhaps she is using V5 resin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1vTZLUmhVs&t=1373s

My 1500 V2 print came out nice but on the 4L the maximum resolution is 100um. I totally thought the 4L was capable of 50um, like the Form 4 is. That was a bit of a surprise. And the end results have stair stepping.
I wonder if rotating the piece to be more angled would help both the stairstepping and also the large number of supports.

Drop the supports down to 0.3mm and try again, should be easier. You might also need to reduce the density of supports if preform is going really aggressive.

@revel, thanks for sharing the video where you saw the tear-away supports. That is Tough 1500 V1. I love the new Tough 1500, but support removal isn’t as easy. Smaller touchpoints will help.

Also, we are working on getting the settings for .50um layers. I have the link to our Form 4L generation print settings roadmap so that you can track which settings will be coming out next.

Thanks!!! I very much look forward to that!

BTW. THe Tough 1500 V2 is a very very impressive material. Its nothing like I thought it would be at all. When it says “like the parts on a car” it makes sense. I am used to cutting supports and having them shoot everywhere. When I first started cutting i put my hand over it instinctually from all my Form 2 Grey/Pro prints. I was shocked. Its like the supports are made out of toothpicks (wood).
I am very early in this. very early. But I was blown away as I didn’t know this type of resin print was even possible!

I have a tray and bottles for Clear V5 so I plan to try that out and see what that does and how the parts feel.
