I’d suggest both. No way the tray should be too small to accept an entire cartridge if the valve, or software, or clamp mechanism, should fail. No way the valves should fall out of the cartridges; they should be bonded in.
I will now be pouring OUT a good third of the contents of a new cartridge, and put it back in when the cartridge has run down a bit. At least that way, the cartridge never has enough in it to overflow the tank…
