PreForm Just Got Better: Updates Based on Your Feedback (Hollowing, Drain Holes, Texturing, Labeling, & more)

Yeah I get there can be limitations. What I really want is just a more quantitative and less iterative way to define textures. Either through presets, or simply by surface roughness values and we can control which are internally tested and determined by Formlabs.

Out of curiosity what are your settings to get close to SPI D1? I may actually need to be doing this relatively soon to get more of a diffuse surface. I tried in the past with clear resin on one or two iterations but found the iterative process was just too annoying to deal with so I just ended up bead blasting it myself

I’d have to dig up the file. I don’t do it enough to have standardized it. I’ve sort of done it case-by-case. If you can bead-blast, you will like it better. That is what I generally do, due to the issues with orientation affecting the finish. I’ll be experimenting with this on a clear production part in the very near future though, and I’ll share results, as I’ll actually be doing it with the idea of quantifying it, rather than messing around with settings to see what happens.

OK - keep me posted, curious to hear what you end up finding.

I ended up using the 3D texture tool in SolidWorks, giving me a model I can export and send to any vendor or printer workflow. No more vendor lock in.
