At the time we came up with Solv, we also started working on another idea. An automated mixer for creating color resin. This would be an in-line mixer that would act similar to the resin pump to keep a tank full of colored resin. It would create the resin color on-the-fly as the printer is running.
Working with a group of University of Minnesota ME students, the device was showcased at an expo showing all the senior ME projects.
Really proud of the work these guys did. Their device is gravity fed through a vertically mounted mixer (similar to an empoxy mixing tube). At the heart of the system are precisely controlled (and very expensive) metering valves. There is an RGB LED that is intended to mimic the color being produced.
