Hello formlabs forum folks!
We’re excited to share the complete .form library of our Material Library Swatches for your 3D printer work stations. Designed by our Product Marketing Manager, Evan, we debuted this the first time during the User Summit last Fall. A few iterations later, we’ve been showcasing them around the world in our tradeshow booths.
We kept these as an internal resource until a customer saw these displayed in our Rapid booth this Spring and asked if they could have access to the files to print their own swatches. We suspected this might help more than this one customer, so here you go!
THE MATERIAL SWATCH FILES
This .zip file includes the full set of 54 swatches that we display on our ‘Material Wall’ at the Formlabs User Summit and our tradeshows.
Our material swatches at our Rapid booth: April 2025
Use: The idea is to print these out on the existing material that you have and display it in your workspace
These swatches were generated in OpenScad and feature:
- 4 material properties
- Bar showing how the material compares to the full portfolio. The relative values are on a piecewise hybrid scale that is linear between -σ/2 to +σ/2 and then logarithmic outside of one standard deviation. This calculation was done on the included sheet and helps better differentiate our numerous materials that are close to the average value for that property. The Parametric OpenSCAD is also included.
Purpose: Quick tangible material info to help you make material decisions in your workspace.
Print Tips: These should be printed flat to the build platform on Form 4 and with the text facing down on Fuse for best results.
Printer: Form 4
Materials: Corresponding to the file name of each swatch design.
Assembly tips: Hang them on a pegboard and pegboard hooks from your local hardware store.
