just got the “Adding Screw Threads to 3D Printed Parts” tutorial, and thought of an old problem of mine…
how would you go about creating a jar lid when you only have the jar…?
we have some very old butter churn jars, which have lid sizes over 8 inches, each with different thread pitch…
since the jars are clear glass, i’ve even tried painting them to get a good laser scan, but either i am doing every thing wrong, or using the wrong methods…
Screw tops on glass jars are fairly standardised and there is a lot of stuff on the internet from container manufacturers that explain the screw threads. This one for instance
You’ll find a lot of drawings of container threads here as well. As for laser scanning your glass container: you can buy a special aerosol spray for reflective surfaces which should help, alternatively we used to use athletes foot powder spray!
