Share with me on your experiences with the Form 4B

Hello everyone, we are looking at replacing out our 3B+ in time. Can we get some of your opinions as you have changed updated.

Thanks

Hello @Innovation ,

This may be slightly off-topic, but a few points from our experience may be useful. We initially booked the Form 3+, but decided to wait for and purchase the Formlabs Form 4 once it was announced.

The key reasons, which still hold true for us, are:

1) Tank Life
The Form 3+ uses material-specific tanks with limited life. The Form 4 tank is rated for ~75,000 layers across materials, which significantly reduces consumable cost over time.

2) Speed
The Form 4 is substantially faster. Published data and field comparisons indicate:

  • ~2–5× faster print speeds vs Formlabs Form 3+

  • Approx. ~40 mm/hr vs ~11 mm/hr in practical scenarios

3) Dimensional Accuracy
We have not observed any major limitations. Typical results are within ±0.1–0.2 mm for linear dimensions and diameters. Orientation introduces some variability, but overall accuracy is consistent.

4) Materials
For our use, most non-medical materials are compatible with the Form 4, so we did not feel limited. Since you mentioned the Formlabs Form 3B+, assuming medical/dental use: BEGO VarseoSmile TriniQ Resin is only compatible with Form 4. However, some materials available on Form 3B+ are not supported on Form 4 (e.g., Dental SG, IBT, Model, Permanent Crown, Soft Tissue, Temporary CB). It would be worth reviewing whether any of these are critical for your applications.

5) Surface Finish
Surface quality and finish are excellent. The newer light engine and exposure method maintain fine detail and smooth surfaces.

6) Build Volume
There is roughly a ~30% increase in build volume compared to the Form 3+.

Overall, the Form 4 has been more cost-effective and significantly faster for our use while maintaining accuracy and surface quality.

Hope this helps.
