# How do you know when the Resin tank needs to be replaced?

How do you know when the resin tank should be replaced? Are there warning signs that it is failing?

The vats PDMS layer will appear cloudy. Most likely, you will notice with a failed print…

They should last around 2 liters of resin. YMMV.

Here’s a bit more information about what [signs to look for](https://support.formlabs.com/hc/articles/115000007510) before replacing a Formlabs resin tank. You’ll also notice that today’s update to Dashboard includes [resin tank “heat maps”](https://support.formlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000013884) for network connected Form 2 prints.

Here’s an example of a heat map for a resin tank printing with grey resin:
