Hi, I’ve installed the wash and cure USB drivers, tried running FormWashCureUpdater and it just sits for a few seconds and then closes. I have bought a Form 4 with this cure station and the Tough 1500 V2 resin profile is not loaded. So looking for a firmware update to install the material profile I plan to use most.
Previous forum posts on FormWashCureUpdater seem to be fairly old and not that related to my symptoms. I’m on Win 10.
Please could anyone offer suggestions of how to get the newer material profiles onto this relatively new product? I don’t want to have to manually add them - would far rather take the time to get the updater working how it should. Thanks.
Hi @smerrett
Thank you for reaching out.
It certainly looks like it did find something, but wasn’t able to establish a proper connection.
Can you double check how you plugged in the Form Cure to your computer (USB-hub, direct, etc.)?
I’d avise checking another USB port and not using a USB Hub or extension if possible.
Could you also check what your Device Manager thinks your Form Wash is: Is it listed as Form Wash under Universal Serial Bus devices or is there a new “unknown device” once you plug the Cure in?
You can also try the steps listed under Force a Firmware Update listed in this article
Hi @Jakob_D , thanks for following up. I initially used a hub. Then I saw the recommendation not to use a hub so I plugged the cable straight into the motherboard USB port. The direct connection is the connection you see the logs for above.
It is listed as Form Cure V2 DFU
Following the Force a Firmware Update steps results in no USB connection (the screen is blank too) and the buffer dot animation in FormWashCureUpdater just runs indefinitely and “Looking for Form Wash or Form Cure connected via USB” is displayed. If I power cycle and do normal boot process (don’t hold the dial button in when powering up) the same behaviour I reported above happens (USB enumerates but FormWashCureUpdater closes itself having failed to update anything).
BTW, my Cure V2 firmware version is 1.1.0-001.
Preform is version 3.49.0.532
Hi @smerrett, I just checked with our engineers and was told an update will be released late Q3 this year. For now, you can create a custom profile and cure at 70ºC for 12min for Tough 1500 V2. (No heat for the Low Warp setting).
OK thanks for acknowledging the issue. So the updater process is bricked for the Cure V2? Please let me know when the patch is available - presumably through a new version of preform? Will I need to try and remove the usb drivers or will it purely need to change the updater executable?
Just got some more info, the Cure V2 firmware is bundled in PreForm versions 3.46+, so you should be able to update using the built-in updater if you’re running PreForm 3.49.
However, important to note that Windows users need to install our USB driver package, and that install process can take 10–15 minutes to complete fully. If that step is interrupted or skipped, the updater may silently fail. You can find the full driver install steps here and install this (red arrow).
Even without updating, the setting labeled “Tough 1500 1/1.1 – Full Properties” in Cure V2 is equivalent to the Tough 1500 V2 setting. You can use that in the meantime while we continue adding more material-specific presets to future firmware.
It looks like you’re currently on firmware version 1.1.0, and 1.2.0 is the latest. If you’re still unable to get the update working after installing the driver, feel free to follow up here or reach out to support and we will get it sorted out.
Thanks for the additional suggestions @henryqiu. I installed those drivers prior to my initial attempt (was following those instructions) and waited for the process to complete. I also tried the “repair driver” option that the installer gives, once installed, to no effect on the resulting updater process. I can DM the whole log file if that’s helpful.
Nudging again @henryqiu as although I could open a support ticket, it might be more helpful for future people experiencing this issue if we can resolve in the forum.
The cure times listed on the material pages are not updated for the form cure 2 yet. You should look here for the updated cure times, it is much faster than the orginal Form Cure. Although I will warn you, we mostly use a custom profile for anything that cures at room temperature to cure at the minimum heat of 35C as the models cured at room temp tend to be a little tacky feeling on the finsh. Doing 1min at 35C has removed that issue for us.
Thanks @mctech . I can live with the workaround for now. I was partially bumping because there’s a UI issue I raised in another thread which would be extremely nice to get addressed in the next Cure and Wash firmware versions.
I am interested in what you said about curing at 35 C. I have done a few room temp cures to avoid warping and have been surprised at how warm they have come out of the Cure 2 when they have not been supposed to take any heating. As if there is a minimum 30-40C cure air temperature that is considered “room” temp. My lab is around 20C at the moment, so I don’t think it can just be fan and electronics heat being trapped in the cure chamber.
